ATELIER

A timeless place in the heart of Milan
Situated in the courtyard of a historic townhouse, Natsuko Toyofuku’s atelier is much more than just an exhibition space: it’s a place that is rich in history, memory and transformations, reflecting the way Milan itself has changed.
The Corso Como of the 1960s was very different from the street we know today, bustling with shopping and culture. Back then, it was a neighbourhood with an authentic but somewhat shabby charm, frequented by artisans, artists and locals. The inner courtyards of the buildings housed creative ateliers, craft workshops and art studios, making this corner of Milan a lively crossroads of ideas and skills. In this environment, in the same space that now houses Natsuko Toyofuku’s creations, was the studio of her father, the sculptor Tomonori Toyofuku.
Originally from Japan, Tomonori came to Milan in the 1960s, bringing with him an innovative artistic vision and a profound connection to Japanese culture. Here, within the walls of Corso Como 9, he created many of his works, combining tradition and modernity in sculptures that have left their mark on the international art scene.

Today, Natsuko Toyofuku’s atelier embraces this legacy, transforming the space into a place where every day brings a fresh breath of creativity. Her collections, which mix Eastern and Western influences, tell a story of family continuity and artistic evolution. To wander through her atelier is to immerse oneself in an atmosphere that combines past and present, memory and innovation, reflecting the very soul of Corso Como.
In the heart of an ever-changing Milan, this is a place that still harbours the creative spirit of times past.
